this week’s read

My most interesting read this week is a novella called Machine by Danish Peter Adolphsen. In it he explores life, death and transformation via the path of a drop of crude oil — from its origins 55-million years ago in the decaying heart of a tiny prehistoric horse, through refinement to gasoline and then into the tank of a 1970s car.
It’s a compilation of ideas, scientific and philosophical clothed in a fable-like story. If you are a fan of ideas this novella is innovative and exciting I would like to read more of his work, but I suspect only Machine has been translated into English.
Otherwise congratulations to Claire Saxby for her Silver Kite nomination and Hazel Edwards for all the awards her ‘f2m’ is receiving. Well done ladies!
